#81 The Long Road: What Two Decades of Marriage Taught Me About Real Love
You can now text the show! How cool is that. Do it now!
This summer my wife and I celebrated 20 years of marriage. We actually did celebrate! We went out for dinner, something we don't do often! After twenty years of marriage, there have been plenty of hard-won lessons I've learned about what it really takes to build love that lasts. This isn't a list of marriage tips or romantic ideals - it's an honest conversation about the daily choices, difficult seasons, and small victories that create marriages worth having.
From choosing wisely at the start to deciding daily to stay committed, this episode shares the practical wisdom that's kept our marriage strong through two decades of real life. I talk openly about the times we wondered if we'd make it, the mistakes I've made, and what I've observed in marriages that thrive versus those that struggle.
Whether you're newly married, celebrating decades together, single and hoping for marriage someday, or walking through the pain of divorce, this episode offers hope and practical insight for anyone who believes that real love is worth the long road it takes to build it.
Topics covered:
- Why marriage can be doing you good even when it's not making you happy
- The power of words (and why you should never criticise your spouse to others)
- Money, intimacy, and other areas that can make or break a relationship
- The most important decision you can make if you want to stay married
- Why taking the long view changes everything
- A compassionate word for those who've experienced divorce
This episode contains honest discussion about marriage challenges and is intended for mature listeners.
